PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Coast Guard has closed multiple river bars along the Pacific Northwest coast because of hazardous winds and waves, including the bar at the mouth of the Columbia River.

In Washington state, the bar at the Quillayute (KWIL’-uh-yoot) River in the Olympic Peninsula was closed Wednesday.

Oregon closures included the bars at Tillamook Bay, Depoe Bay, Yaquina Bay and Coos Bay, as well as the Siuslaw and Umpqua river bars.

The bar is the point where the Pacific Ocean meets the mouths of rivers and bays.
