LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) — A Longview casino is asking the city for a tax break because of the cost of the new minimum wage.
The owner of the Cadillac Island Casino, Jim Bakunowicz, says most of his 300 employees earn the minimum wage, which went up 37 cents this year to $9.04 cents an hour.
He told the The Daily News (http://is.gd/EPl2Qi ) the hike plus taxes amount to about $1,000 a year for each employee or $300,000 total.
The casino hasn’t turned a profit since 2008 and it paid $381,000 last year in gambling taxes. It’s asking for a sliding tax scale, based on revenue. The city council will consider it at Thursday’s meeting.
