Pets of the week

The Columbian
Published: January 24, 2012, 4:00pm

Keesha, a 6-year-old white cat, came to the shelter when her owner could no longer care for her. Keesha will need a home with children older than 14 since she likes a laid-back household. She needs a slow introduction to her new home.

Balto is a 7-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound who came to the shelter when his owners could no longer care for him. Balto seems to love everyone, especially children. He has lived with other dogs and even cats and he just seems to charm them all.

These pets are among those available for adoption from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Humane Society for Southwest Washington, 1100 N.E. 192nd Ave., Vancouver. Fees — which can include registered microchip, health exam, a spay or neuter certificate and vaccination — vary. Call 360-693-4746.
