PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard says it has closed the bars at the Columbia and Quillayute (KWIL’-uh-yoot) rivers on the Pacific Northwest coast because of hazardous conditions.

It’s also reminded fishermen that high surf makes fishing dangerous.

The National Weather Service issued warnings Wednesday about high surf along the coast.
