BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Shavar Richardson scored 25 points and Florida Atlantic used a second-half rally to beat Western Kentucky 67-66 on Thursday night.

Western Kentucky led 62-53 behind two Kahlil McDonald free throws with 5:23 left to play. But Richardson made two free throws of his own, sparking a 12-4 run and cutting the Hilltoppers’ lead to just one, 66-65, with 29 seconds remaining.

Jordan McCoy made a layup with 10 seconds left to give Florida Atlantic (9-12, 5-3 Sun Belt Conference) its first lead of the half, 67-66, and Kelvin Penn blocked Jamal Crook’s layup attempt as time expired to seal the win.

McCoy finished with 10 points and seven boards and made the Owls’ last two buckets.

Florida Atlantic dished out 17 assists, compared to just 11 for Western Kentucky (6-15, 2-6), and blocked eight shots.

Derrick Gordon led the Hilltoppers with 16 points.
