Isenbarger leads Elon past Western Carolina 71-63

CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) — Jack Isenbarger scored a season-high 26 points, hitting five 3-pointers, as Elon defeated Western Carolina 71-63 Thursday night in Southern Conference action.

The Phoenix (10-9, 5-3), who snapped a three-game losing streak in the series, took their first lead at 25-22 with 4:26 to go in the first half and led 29-26 at the break.

The Catamounts (9-12, 3-5) stayed within five points in the second half until Elon, leading 42-41 with 10:16 left, used a 7-0 run to pull away.

The Phoenix shot only 36.8 percent from the field (21 of 57), but limited Western Carolina to 35 percent (21 of 60). Elon has held its opponent to under 40 percent shooting in nine of its 10 wins.

The Phoenix won the rebounding battle for only the fourth time this season, 32-31.

Trey Sumler led the Catamounts with 18 points and Tawaski King had 14 points and 11 rebounds.
