Man charged in priest’s death found dead in jail

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi corrections officials say a man accused of killing a Roman Catholic priest and taking the victim’s car on a family vacation to Disney World has been found dead in his prison cell of an apparent suicide.

Thirty-three-year-old Jeremy Wayne Manieri was charged with shooting the Rev. Ed Everitt in July 2011 at a beach house in Waveland, Miss.

Manieri’s attorney, Brian Alexander, confirmed that he was found dead early Thursday morning. Manieri was being held at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Rankin County.
