CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) — Leon Powell had 18 rebounds and 12 points and Southeast Missouri State closed the game with six straight points to defeat Austin Peay 65-60 Thursday night.
Marcus Gilbert’s layup with 1:36 remaining put the Redhawks (11-9, 6-2 Ohio Valley) ahead 61-60. Powell followed with a tip-in with 38 seconds left and Lucas Nutt closed it out with a pair of free throws with 21 seconds to go.
Powell had nine offensive rebounds, and Southeast Missouri nearly doubled Austin Peay’s rebound total, 50-26.
Tyler Stone added 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Redhawks, who led by as many as 17 points in the first half.
