VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — The Washington State Patrol says a Vancouver father and son died when their pickup truck collided with a tractor-trailer rig on Interstate 5 in Lewis County.

Troopers said 43-year-old Anatoliy Kovalchuk was northbound Thursday when his truck collided with the rear of a Kenworth tractor cab pulling a flatbed trailer. They say the big rig was the last vehicle in a four-mile-long backup from an earlier collision.

Both Kovalchuk and his son, 15-year-old Mark Kovalchuk, were dead at the scene. Neither was wearing a seatbelt. The tractor-trailer driver was unhurt.
