McCollum scores 24, leads Lehigh past Navy 71-60

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) — C.J. McCollum had 24 points and 14 rebounds as Lehigh pulled away from Navy in the second half of a 71-60 win Thursday night, earning its 16th victory and tying last season’s win total.

The Mountain Hawks (16-6, 4-2 Patriot League) pulled 10 games over .500 in the regular season for the first time since 1988.

Navy (3-17, 0-6) has lost 13 straight.

Lehigh never trailed, leading by 10 early and 29-26 at halftime.

With the Mountain Hawks ahead 42-32, Jordan Sugars, who led the Midshipmen with 15 points, scored five straight. Lehigh answered with Jordan Hamilton’s three-point play and Mackey McKnight’s 3-pointer.

The Mountain Hawks shot only 39.1 percent in the first half (9 of 23), improving to 66.7 percent in the second (12 of 18).

The double-double was the 15th for McCollum, whose 1,775 career points moved him into fifth in school history and seventh in the conference.
