PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police say a Portland homeowner shot a suspected burglar with a gun firing rubber bullets.

The man told police he caught the suspect before 4 a.m. Friday trying to break in his back door.

After he was shot, the suspect fled.

Officers found the suspect behind the St. John’s Lutheran Church and took him into custody. He is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries from the impact of at least one rubber bullet, according to a Portland police bulletin.

The homeowner is cooperating with officers as they continue to investigate the incident, police said.
