EASTON, Pa. (AP) — Charles Hinkle scored 23 points and American University used a second-half run to beat Lafayette 69-61 on Saturday.
American (14-8, 5-2 Patriot League) entered the second half with a five-point advantage, 35-30, but Lafayette used a 14-8 run to take a 44-43 lead behind a Rob Delaney layup. The Eagles then scored 12 unanswered points, jumping ahead 55-44 and taking the lead for good in the process.
Hinkle capped the spurt with five straight points and the Eagles led by no less than five the rest of the way.
Hinkle was 7 of 14 from the field, including four 3-pointers, for the Eagles who shot 52.2 percent (24 of 46) from the floor and 50 percent (9 of 18) from deep.
Delaney led Lafayette (9-13, 4-3) with 12 points but Jim Mower, the Jaguars’ second-leading scorer, was held to just five points on 2 of 10 shooting.
