ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — Two years removed from an amazing recovery after an accident in Utah, Kevin Pearce is hanging out and doing some TV work at the Winter X Games this week. These are games being played in honor of Sarah Burke, the freestyle skier whose halfpipe accident led to her death last week.
Despite the loss of one of their stars and the injury-forced retirement of another, Winter X athletes all around the snow park in Aspen insist the games must go on.
Pearce agrees. He says he doesn’t think the sport has become too dangerous and nor does he think there’s anything intrinsically wrong with the Park City halfpipe where both he and Burke were injured.
