DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Tahj Tate scored 20 points to lead Delaware State to a 76-70 victory over North Carolina Central in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game on Saturday.

The Hornets (6-11, 3-3), who won their second in a row after losing eight straight, overcame 28 points by Ray Willis for the Eagles (9-11, 3-4), including 12 of 13 free throws in the second half.

Delaware State led 35-22 with 2:03 remaining in the first half after a 16-2 run that included eight points by Tate.

The Hornets never trailed in the second half, but their lead dwindled to 74-70 with 21 seconds left. After a steal by Willis led to an unsuccessful 3-pointer by Tramar Beaman, Jay Threatt’s two free throws gave Delaware State its final margin.

Casey Walker added 15 points, Kendall Gray 14 and Threatt 11 for Delaware State.

Ebuka Anyaorah scored 14 and Dominique Sutton 12 for North Carolina Central.
