Delaware State defeats North Carolina A&T 56-41

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Tahj Tate scored 15 points and Delaware State held North Carolina A&T’s shooting in check for a 56-41 win on Monday night.

The Hornets (7-11, 4-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) blocked 12 shots, including five from Kendall Gray and four from James Marcellus, as the Aggies shot just 27.5 percent from the field (14 of 51).

North Carolina A&T (10-13, 5-3) was just 2 of 17 from 3-point range (11.8 percent) after taking 59 and making 46 percent from long range in its previous two games.

Delaware State trailed 33-30 with 16:39 remaining and went on a 10-5 run to take the lead for good, 40-38. Tate, who scored 10 points during the spurt, capped it on a layup with 12:56 to go.

Tyshawn Bell added 12 points and Casey Walker 10 for the Hornets, who won their third straight.

The Aggies were led by Adrian Powell with 17 points.
