SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Brandon Ford scored 14 points and Tre Lee 13 as Howard ended its eight-game losing streak with an 82-76 victory over South Carolina State on Monday night.

Calvin Thompson added 11 points for the Bison (5-17, 2-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), Prince Okoroh and Mike Phillips scored 10 each, and Simuel Frazier had nine points and five assists.

Howard’s balanced scoring attack helped overcome a 31-point performance by South Carolina State’s Brandon Riley. The Bulldogs (4-17, 0-8) have lost 15 in a row.

A layup by Lee with 14:37 remaining put Howard ahead 48-47, and the Bison increased their lead to as many as 10 points, 69-59, with 5:47 to go.

After Riley missed a 3-pointer with the Bulldogs trailing 76-71, Howard put the game away with seven free throws in the final minute.

Omar Sanders scored 14 points and Khalif Toombs 10 for South Carolina State.
