ROY, Wash. (AP) — The Pierce County sheriff’s SWAT team has fatally shot a man who reportedly opened fire on deputies and a sheriff’s airplane as officers tried to serve a search warrant on the man’s home near Roy, Wash.

No officers were injured.

The News Tribune reports the man was shot about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer says the SWAT officers were called to serve the high-risk search warrant after the man had been reported shooting at neighbors earlier in the day. Troyer says the resident had also recently threatened to kill neighbors and deputies.

The newspaper says the man had been involuntarily committed several months ago. He was not immediately identified.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether the plane sustained any damage.
