VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — A couple of Vancouver residents who listen to the police and fire emergency radio are putting a new twist on their hobby by relaying what they hear on Twitter.

Caran Johnson and Jason Williard told The Columbian (http://is.gd/Ygey2Y ) they listen to the scanner because they like to know what’s going on and feel a certain obligation to update their followers.

Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp cautions against putting out information from the early stages of an incident that isn’t verified. She also says there’s a chance a tweet could tip off a criminal.
