Get Serious holds on to win Monmouth Park feature

OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) — Get Serious held off El Commodore in the stretch to win by a half-length in the $100,000 Red Bank Stakes at Monmouth Park on Wednesday, winning the race for the third straight time.

Ridden by Pablo Fragoso and trained by John Forbes, the 8-year-old gelding ran the mile over a firm turf course in 1:32.63 and returned $12.40, $7.20 and $4. The win in the Grade III race was the 14th victory in 37 career starts for Get Serious, who has earned $1,098,091.

El Commodore returned $11.40 and $5.20, while Queen’splatekitten was another 114 lengths back in third and paid $2.80.

Get Serious — who has won 13 races at Monmouth Park — also won the Red Bank Stakes in 2009 and 2010. It wasn’t contested in 2011.
