The Vancouver Police Department was awarded a letter and certificate from the International Association of Chiefs of Police through the 2012 Outstanding Achievement in Law Enforcement Volunteer Programs for its Neighbors On Watch program.

Volunteers assist the department in reducing crime through observation, crime prevention education and outreach.

The program also won an honorable mention certificate for the outstanding Volunteers in Policing Program category.

The review process is highly competitive for these awards, according to a bulletin from police.

Anyone interested in volunteering with the Vancouver Police Department can contact volunteer coordinator Kelly Cheney at 360-487-7467 or kelly.cheney@cityofvancouver.us.
