The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for fire danger in Oregon’s upper Hood River Valley and the western Columbia River Gorge.
KGW says the warning issued Sunday states that thunderstorms are expected to develop, producing lightning in the eastern slopes of the northern Oregon and Southern Washington Cascades.
According to the warning, the combination of lightning, strong winds, low humidity and warm temperatures will create “explosive fire growth potential.”
Storms were expected to taper off Sunday. Another round of storms, however, could start up Monday evening.
The warning is in effect until 2 p.m. Tuesday.
