Mount St. Helens hiker in serious condition

Netsanet Habtu, 26, of Seattle was in serious condition Monday night at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center after a Saturday afternoon climbing accident on Mount St. Helens.

She was descending the mountain’s main climbing route by deliberately sliding on snow and ice. She lost control and slid an additional 300 yards, striking some rocks. She suffered head and facial injuries.
