NEW YORK (AP) — Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Ranger Suarez and free-agent pitcher Daniel Cordero have been suspended 50 games each for violating baseball’s minor league drug program.
The commissioner’s office announced Thursday that Suarez and Cordero both tested positive for metabolites of Stanozolol.
Suarez is on the roster of the Venezuelan Summer League Phillies and his suspension is effective immediately. He had two saves in three appearances out of the bullpen this season, striking out four batters in five scoreless innings.
Cordero’s punishment will begin as soon as he signs with a major league organization.
