LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Lubbock Christian has been accepted for candidacy to move its 11 varsity athletic programs from NAIA to the NCAA Division II level.
The school said Friday that it will remain in the Sooner Athletic Conference for the upcoming academic year, followed by a two-year transition and provisional period. The Chaparrals hope to gain official NCAA Division II status for the 2015-16 academic year.
Lubbock Christian has men’s and women’s teams in basketball, cross country, golf and soccer. The school also has a baseball team along with softball and volleyball squads for women.
