Letter: Mayor displays leadership

The Columbian
Published: July 15, 2012, 5:00pm

The partisanship and grandstanding by some locally elected officials is tiresome. We, the public, complain that our politicians get nothing done, and yet continue to send those with poor leadership skills to do our bidding. But the mayor in Vancouver bucks that trend.

Follow Tim Leavitt for any period of time, and one quickly realizes that he is matter-of-fact, reasonable and free of manipulative rhetoric. He listens well and is thoughtful in his positioning on issues to make progress. During challenging moments, Leavitt has demonstrated his poise, diplomacy and calming nature.

Others in elected office ought to take some cues from his leadership skills rather than being so consumed with unproductive pandering. He is a great example to follow, and we are fortunate that he serves our community in these challenging times.
