Crews with the Washington State Department of Transportation are working to remove about 1,000 cubic yards of rocks, dirt and debris from state Highway 14 just east of Roosevelt. The highway was closed Sunday and is not expected to reopen until 5 p.m. today.

Heavy rains caused mudslides Saturday night, blocking all lanes.

The highway on Sunday was closed between U.S. Highway 97 in Maryhill, about 100 miles east of Vancouver, and state Highway 221 near Paterson, another 67 miles east.

Drivers are using alternate routes, including Interstate 84 in Oregon.
