5th-seeded Verdasco loses in 1st round in Hamburg

HAMBURG, Germany (AP) — Wild card Julian Reister of Germany upset fifth-seeded Fernando Verdasco of Spain 6-2, 6-3 in the first round of the German Tennis Championships on Tuesday.

Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic also pulled off another surprise, beating eighth-seeded Viktor Troicki of Serbia 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. The 107th-ranked Rosol stunned Rafael Nadal in the second round of Wimbledon last month.

Other seeded players advancing as well included top-seeded Nicolas Almagro of Spain, who cruised past Tobias Kamke of Germany 6-4, 6-1, and No. 3 Juan Monaco of Argentina, who beat Cedrik-Marcel Srtebe of Germany 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
