Top-seeded Almagro advances in Hamburg

HAMBURG, Germany (AP) — Top-seeded Nicolas Almagro defeated sixth-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany 7-5, 7-5 on Friday to reach the semifinals of the German Tennis Championships.

He will next meet third-seeded Juan Monaco, who beat Jeremy Chardy of France 6-3, 7-5.

Almagro was the runner-up last year in Hamburg.

German veteran Tommy Haas beat seventh-seeded countryman Florian Mayer 6-1, 6-4 to set up a semifinal showdown with Marin Cilic of Croatia, who defeated Albert Ramos of Spain 6-4, 7-6 (5).
