EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — Carlos Munoz picked up his first career win in the Indy Lights Series with a victory Saturday at Edmonton.

The rookie from Colombia beat his countryman and Andretti Autosport teammate Sebastian Saavedra by more than eight seconds for the victory.

Esteban Guerrieri finished third to maintain his lead in the Indy Lights standings. It was Guerrieri’s seventh podium finish in nine races this season, and he holds a 30-point lead over Saavedra in the standings.

Munoz said rain changed the complexion of the race, and Guerrieri was faster. But Munoz said he used patience to claim the lead and then pull away.

The victory capped a big day for Andretti Autosport, which celebrated earlier Saturday when Ryan Hunter-Reay won the pole for Sunday’s IndyCar race.
