LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England (AP) — Anirban Lahiri of India made the first hole in one at this year’s British Open when he aced No. 9 in his third round.
A grinning Lahiri raised both hands in the air and gave a bow Saturday after seeing his 9 iron from 150 yards on the par 3 land to the right of the cup and bounce in.
Overnight leader Brandt Snedeker achieved a hole in one during his practice round Wednesday — on the par-4 16th.
There is no prize for a hole in one at Royal Lytham & St. Annes, just the honor on the next tee.
Lahiri and countryman Jeev Milkha Singh made the cut at the Open — the first time two Indians will play a weekend at the same major.
