The real core issue of fireworks in Clark County lies deeper than legal vs. illegal; hours and days for fireworks; or who really makes money from their sale. The heart of this annual conflict is what it means to be a good neighbor. Do we know the neighbors on our street? Their names? Their family members? How about their pets? Do we care about the safety and welfare of our neighbors; their homes and property, their trees, lawns, and shrubs? Their pets?
If we do care, we will avoid shooting fireworks, legal and illegal, at their homes and property. We will not want to harass them in the first place. If they are seniors, we will do our best to be kind and considerate. If they are veterans, we will be sensitive to the trauma caused by loud noises and explosions.
If we are not good neighbors, we will not care about any of this.
Are you a good neighbor?
