RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina State coach Mark Gottfried says he will be “really conservative” with injured point guard Lorenzo Brown and may not play him during the Wolfpack’s trip to Spain as he recovers from offseason knee surgery.
Gottfried said Tuesday that Brown was “not anywhere near 100 percent,” though Brown later characterized himself as between 75 and 80 percent healthy.
The second-year coach says his only objective “is to have him healthy in October” for the official start of practice.
The Wolfpack begin their 10-day trip to Spain on Aug. 5. Brown had been listed as questionable to play after having surgery last month to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee.
He helped lead N.C. State to the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament last March.
