CINCINNATI (AP) — The San Diego Padres have put left-handed reliever Joe Thatcher on the 15-day disabled list because of tendinitis in his right knee.

Thatcher is 0-4 with a 3.42 earned run average in 40 appearances. The sore knee prevented him from pitching in Miami over the weekend.

The Padres replaced him by calling up right-handed reliever Brad Boxberger from Triple-A Tucson before the opener of their series against the Cincinnati Reds on Monday. Boxberger went 2-2 with a 3.03 ERA and five saves for Tucson.

It will be his second stint with San Diego. He was called up on June 10 and made five appearances, posting a 1.42 ERA.

Boxberger was part of the four-player package the Padres acquired from the Reds for starter Mat Latos in the offseason.
