A medal presentation is planned Saturday to honor Clark County veterans who served in the Korean War.
The Korean War Veteran Medal Ceremony will be from 2 to 5 p.m. at Gaiser Hall on the Clark College campus, 1933 Fort Vancouver Way.
The ceremony follows a similar 2011 presentation of medals provided by the government of South Korea. This year, 130 medals will be distributed, said Jerry Keesee, commander of the Richard L. Quatier Chapter Korean War Veterans Association of Southwest Washington.
More than 20 of them are going to veterans who attended the 2011 event but didn’t get a medal because of the unexpected turnout, Keesee said.
Young Wan Song, the South Korean consul general based in Seattle, will participate in the ceremony.
The Korean War started on June 25, 1950; hostilities ended July 27, 1953.
Saturday’s event also is part of the 67th annual observance of Korean Liberation Day, marking the nation’s liberation from Japan in 1945. The ceremony will include traditional Korean music and dance performances.
Vancouver’s Community Military Appreciation Committee also is participating in the event.
The Richard L. Quatier Chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association of Southwest Washington meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. in the Boxcar Room at the 40 et 8 Chateau, 7607 N.E. 26th Ave. in Hazel Dell.
