SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews suffered minor injuries in a car crash and is listed as “day to day.”

The California Highway Patrol says Mathews lost control of his BMW while entering the Interstate 8 freeway Monday and hit another car.

A CHP officer says Mathews might have been driving too fast, but no drugs or alcohol was involved in the crash. The other driver wasn’t hurt.

Mathews tells U-T San Diego (http://bit.ly/QiwQXV ) that he was hurrying to the team hotel after watching a movie at home and overcompensated when his car drifted.

Mathews says he banged up his elbow a little bit. The 2010 draft pick says the next day, he felt as sore as if he had played four games and didn’t practice Tuesday.
