LONDON (AP) — Lucie Decosse of France won the women’s 70-kilogram Olympic judo gold medal on Wednesday after a tense final marked by aggressive grabbing and pulling that sometimes resembled a schoolyard fight.
The top-ranked Decosse defeated German Kerstin Thiele in the final.
Her victory adds a medal to Decosse’s collection: She won silver at the Beijing Games and is a triple world champion.
Decosse was in top form Wednesday, winning several of her fights with the match-ending ippon. One bout ended in just 10 seconds after Decosse immediately flipped her opponent flat on her back.
The bronze medals were won by Yuri Alvear of Colombia and Edith Bosch of the Netherlands.
