CHICAGO (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates have optioned pitcher Daniel McCutchen to Triple-A Indianapolis to make room for reliever Chad Qualls.
The Pirates announced the move Wednesday.
Pittsburgh is the third team this season for Qualls, who began the year with Philadelphia and was acquired in a trade with the New York Yankees on Tuesday. He is 2-1 with a 4.89 ERA this season.
McCutchen, who was recalled Tuesday, has not pitched in the majors this season after making 73 appearances with the Pirates a year ago.
