BOSTON (AP) — Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas says he’ll sit out next season.

Thomas announced on his Facebook page Sunday that he believed that at age 38, it was time to put his time and energy into relationships he says he has neglected. He says he will reconnect with friends, family and faith over the next year.

On Friday, general manager Peter Chiarelli said Thomas told the team he was thinking about sitting out a season.

Thomas played in Finland and broke into an NHL lineup at the age of 32. He won the Vezina Trophy as the league’s top goalie in 2009.

He says he achieved more than he ever thought possible.
