GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Zane Evans delivered from the plate and the mound, helping Georgia Tech stave off elimination with a 3-0 victory over College of Charleston in the Gainesville Regional on Sunday.

The Yellow Jackets (38-25) advanced to play top-seeded Florida later in the day. Georgia Tech needs to beat the Gators twice to advance to the next round of the NCAA tournament.

Evans had a two-out, RBI double in the sixth and pitched three scoreless innings of relief for his seventh save. His double probably should have been caught, but center fielder Marty Gantt lost the ball in the sun and it dropped well within his range.

Connor Lynch gave Evans some extra cushion with a two-run homer — his first of the season — in the ninth.

Alex Cruz (8-3) gave up two hits in six innings for the win. Josh Renfro (6-8) got the loss despite a solid outing.

College of Charleston (38-22) managed to get just four runners to second base.
