INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Former Butler and Iowa coach Todd Lickliter is returning to his Indianapolis roots.
Marian University, an NAIA school located just a few miles from the Butler campus, has called a Wednesday afternoon news conference to announce that it has hired Lickliter, a person with knowledge of the hire told The Associated Press.
The person requested anonymity because the announcement hasn’t happened.
Lickliter enjoyed his greatest basketball success in Indy, leading Butler to the NCAA tournament’s regional semifinals in 2003 and 2007 and was chosen the 2006-07 national coach of the year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
He went 38-57 over the next three seasons at Iowa, a tenure that included health problems. He sat out 2010-11, then returned last season as an assistant at Miami (Ohio).
