JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Athletics South Africa says world championships bronze medallist LJ van Zyl has withdrawn from the 400-meter hurdles at the Oslo Diamond League meet with a knee injury.

ASA says Van Zyl will skip Thursday’s meet and rest until next week because of a “lingering knee irritation.”

Van Zyl set the four fastest times in the world in 2011 and has already qualified for the Olympics.

His coach has restructured his training program ahead of the London Olympics and Van Zyl will resume training Monday in hopes of defending his title at the African Championships at Benin this month.

Van Zyl says he is confident that “all measures are in place for a successful build up to the London Games.”
