VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Vancouver Whitecaps forward Omar Salgado broke his right foot while playing for the U.S. under-20 team.

Vancouver said Thursday that the 18-year-old Salgado was hurt Wednesday during a 4-2 exhibition loss to Uruguay in Montevideo.

“We are confident that he will have a full recovery,” Whitecaps coach Martin Rennie said in a statement.

The Texas native appeared as a first-half substitute, then came out in the 82nd minute.

Salgado has made six Major League Soccer appearances this year, including five starts.
