Cougar Creek Bridge will be replaced

The upcoming replacement of Cougar Creek Bridge will be the subject of an open house hosted by Clark County Public Works, 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 13 at Washougal City Hall, 1701 C. St.

When work on the $1.4 million project begins this summer, a short section of Washougal River Road will be closed for about 15 weeks.

The 27-foot-long timber bridge was built in 1935 and partially rebuilt in 1959.

During construction, traffic will detour around the construction zone between mileposts 5.1 and 5.2, adding about 5 minutes to each trip, according to a Clark County news release.

Fire, police and school representatives will participate in the June 13 open house.

Project manager Jean Singer said Wednesday that the organizers of the Washougal MX National, July 19-21, have been told about road closure and will work with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office to direct traffic accordingly. The event draws thousands of people every summer to the Washougal Motocross Park.
