Vancouver and Clark County administrators said Friday that William Hutsinpiller will serve as interim director of the Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation Department.

Hutsinpiller will succeed Director Pete Mayer, who leaves his post in late June. Hutsinpiller will serve in the position as the city and county conduct a nationwide search for the next director.

Hutsinpiller, a resident of Blaine, will begin work part-time next week and begin full-time June 25. He brings more than 30 years of managerial experience at the city, county and state levels.

He has served as director of parks and recreation in the cities of Renton, Bellingham, Yakima and Kirkland and assistant regional manager for Washington State Parks. He also has held parks and recreation posts in King County and the city of Everett, and has served as a parks and recreation adviser to the Spokane City Council and the cities of Chelan and Kent, among others.

The parks director reports to both Vancouver and Clark County officials. Hutsinpiller will be paid $10,250 a month, or $123,000 a year; last year, Mayer earned $129,360.
