Wouldn’t it be nice if we could actually extract more taxes from the rich who have made all the money in the wars over the past 12 years? And who has paid the heaviest price for these wars? A congressperson’s son or daughter killed in battle?
That would be the exception to prove the rule that the poorest people furnish the persons who will be killed in battle. So the heaviest tax, be it money or persons, is always laid on the poor. What a revolting idea. But it works, has worked in the past and will do so in the future.
And who are the unhappiest of people in our time? The members of Congress who’ve signed on a pledge not to raise taxes. In a time of war? That is not how we saw it in the 1940s. The common sacrifice from all of us all paid for the war while it was going on. And the poorest among us are still doing all the paying.
Maybe our congressmen and congresswomen are being overpaid. Think about it.
