CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A person familiar with the situation told the Associated Press that Hall of Fame coach Jerry Sloan has pulled himself out of the running for the Bobcats head coaching job.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the coaching search.

Sloan informed the Bobcats of his decision Thursday.

Charlotte settled on three finalists for the job — Sloan, Indiana Pacers assistant coach Brian Shaw and Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Quin Snyder.

It’s unclear if the Bobcats will make a decision between those two or reopen the coaching search. President of basketball operations Rod Higgins said on May 31 he wanted to make a hire “within a couple of weeks.” But it’s possible a decision may not come for at least another week.
