BEIJING (AP) — Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba says he has officially joined topflight Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.
Drogba said on his website on Wednesday he had signed a two-year contract and would join the team in China’s financial hub next month.
The 34-year-old Drogba said he’d studied all the offers before him and felt joining Shanghai was “the right direction for me now.”
No details were given on Shanghai’s offer, although local media reported the club was willing to pay as much as $15 million per year. Drogba’s image adorned Shanghai’s website late Tuesday.
Shanghai already has hired former Argentina coach Sergio Batista and another former Chelsea player, Nicolas Anelka.
