Esther Short — The Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools raised a record $120,000 at its annual May 31 luncheon at the Hilton Vancouver Washington. Cuisine prepared by student chefs and a flash mob performance by 120 students highlighted the event, which was attended by more than 500 community members. The foundation presented a check for $100,000 to Superintendent Steve Webb for a Vancouver Public Schools initiative to support early learners. The grant will enable the school district to expand its Jump Start kindergarten readiness program at six elementary schools that serve the highest concentrations of poverty-affected children.
