COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — A 2-10 season and the defection of 24 players didn’t cause Randy Edsall to alter his plan to establish a successful football program at Maryland.
In his first season as the Terrapins’ head coach, Edsall won only one Atlantic Coast Conference game and had two dozen players leave the program. He attributed those shortcomings to the problems that come with instilling a new philosophy that stresses discipline, teamwork and academics.
Edsall is confident a solid recruiting class, the resolve of his remaining players and a new football field will result in noticeable improvement in 2012.
Edsall said Wednesday his system has taken hold, noting, “I feel a lot better now than I did a year ago in terms of where we’re heading.”
He added, “We could have an outstanding year.”
