The 29-year-old suspect in the Hazel Dell bank robbery, carjacking and high-speed chase into north Portland on Wednesday is a family man who might have been in financial straits.

Personal trainer Brent Jacob Woodall lived in the Cobblestone subdivision in the North Salmon Creek neighborhood with his wife, Aimee R. Woodall, and her three children from a previous marriage, according to a source who knows the family.

The mortgage on their upscale home at 15704 N.E. 24th Ave. was underwater. The 3,550-square-feet house near Washington State University Vancouver had been on the market as a short sale for about a year but did not sell. The listing expired in September.

In March, Quality Loan Service Corporation of Washington was appointed as trustee of the house, which could be an indication of a pre-foreclosure process.

Aimee Woodall bought the house in

February 2008 for $470,000 before her marriage to Woodall, according to Clark County property records. The house is now assessed at about $307,000.

Aimee Woodall, who operates a design business out of their home, sobbed Wednesday when a reporter from The Columbian spoke to her in the family’s driveway. She said she was shocked by the accusations against her husband and didn’t want to speak to the media because she was “embarrassed.”

A white BMW sat in the couple’s driveway. Boxes were stacked high inside their garage, which was visible from the street.

Brent Woodall has worked as a personal trainer at LA Fitness locations in Hazel Dell and on Fourth Plain Boulevard. He also operated Peak Proformance Fitness Training between 2006 and 2007, according to the state Secretary of State’s office.

In 2007, he competed in the Vancouver USA Natural Classic Bodybuilding, Fitness & Figure Championship and the Emerald City Smoothie Washington Ironman competition. He took third place in the latter’s Novice Men Heavy category, according to the Washington Ironman website.
